How To Deal With Guilt; Living A Lifetime Of Freedom in Just Ten Days!
I am certainly not a big fan of guilt. It's annoying! Each time I turn around, something is lurking round the corner that makes me feel guilty. What I eat or shouldn't, how much I exercise - or dont, Individuals that I should have called but did not and the things I should have done today but left until tomorrow or later. The list is never ending as is the guilt and I'm aware that I am not alone in what I'm going through.
The Baltimore Sun newspaper has assembled an extensive group of stories they have written on the guilt people experience, including everything from mom guilt to survivors guilt which also includes individuals who've survived the present recession with their job still intact and those who have survived a plane wreck when others died. How to deal with guilt is the base question of a world loaded with guilt, because lots of lives are being ruined by their guilt. Having guilt is a horrible thing. Depending on the cause of your guilt, the ensuing shame and remorse can make living life rather difficult, even debilitating if living gets to be too much. There is no doubt that a lot of guilt is self-inflicted based totally on impractical expectations by by other people or ourselves. We need to learn how to let go of that kind of guilt, or better yet, not let ourselves take possession of it. However, sometimes guilt is justified when brought about by wrong, immoral or illegal behaviour. If thats the case, what are the options we have?
In figuring out the best way to cope with guilt, you might attempt to get along with guilt, remind yourself it is in the past and whats finished is finished and move on with what is bound to be not as happy life. Or you might attempt to explain or minimise it, mentioning thirty different individuals you know who've done what you probably did or worse, making you feel much better by comparison. Or you could use the rest of your life punishing yourself for it? (Plenty of folks do this without realising it.) If you have done something in your life you actually feel bad for, you know these are not wonderful options. Guilt could eat you alive before you achieve relief going down one of those highways.
The best choice is to ask for clemency from the One who is really able to forgive you, God Himself. What causes guilt is sin and sin is whatever is contrary to what God wants us to think, do or say! Hence, what that means then is that all sin we commit is directly against your Heavenly Father.
King David tells us in the 51st chapter verse 4 of Psalms when he says against you and you only have I sinned and done that which is malicious in your sight he was referring to the adultery he had committed with Bathsheba and the subsequent murder of her husband when attempting to cover it up. Yes, there were individuals concerned in his sins but most importantly his sins were against God. As a consequence it was God's forgiveness that he needed.
God pardons and forgives our sins and thats where the freedom from our guilt arrives from. God, when he pardons, completely releases the offender from any farther punishment of the offense and He even goes as far as to forget what we did. He is able to do that because He is God. Now, there still might be consequences from the sin you committed that can't be evaded; cheating on a test might still result in failing the class, an adulterous affair may still result in the wedding breaking up and lying to a supervisor could mean the end of a career but it doesn't mean those can never be forgiven or pardoned.
If we have a relationship with Our Lord, through His Son, God promises us in I John 19. If we confess our sin He is loyal and just to pardon us of our sin and to clean us from all unrighteousness (everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought and action). Not only will He clean us but He removes our guilt.
Our world is very good at handling things we do not know how to fix. We may manage disease and pain and suffering. We attempt to manage our anxiety and fear and even our guilt. We use so much wasted time on handling things that God wants to fix, deliver us from or pardon us of and give us freedom in this life. Existing with guilt is not the way He intends for anybody to live life. God paid the ultimate price possible, the death of His Son Jesus, for your forgiveness and release from your guilt. Why then, would He not welcome your asking to do so happily?
